Many people take the length of their mattress for granted. If you are over six feet tall, however, you surely do not. You find yourself either scrunching up at night on your standard-length, full-size mattress or struggling to procure an affordable set of full extra long sheets. The size of an XL full mattress is 54” x 80”. That means it is a solid 6’8” long. If all you have are standard-size sheets, you will find the set up particular difficulty with the fitted sheets. There is simply no way to stretch out the sheet to reach the corners of a bed that is simply too large.
What should really be the case is that full extra long sheets should become the standard. The reasoning for this thought is that XL sheets will work on a standard-length mattress, but not the other way around. That way, manufacturers would have a more standardized selection for everyone. After all, there are many people who would opt to have an extra long full mattress simply because of the increased bed size, but change their decision due to the difficulty of finding quality, inexpensive full extra long sheets. Having XL sheets be sold more often would certainly solve this dilemma.
However, as it stands right now, full extra long sheets are considered custom. There are certainly options for finding these sheets, especially with online venues, but what price are you willing to pay? Some companies will charge an arm and a leg for custom sheets. Keep in mind that price differences you find from a single retailer will be caused by differences in material. While cotton is typically the fabric of choice, there is an easy way to validate a price increase: thread count. Higher thread counts mean there is more fabric per square inch. This increases the softness of the sheets, not to mention their lifetime.
The bottom line is that if you find yourself struggling to sleep at night due to a short mattress, you need to make an investment in an extra long mattress. Full-size beds are perfect for tall teens and adults that need something wider than a twin but not as wide as a queen. This leaves you seeking out full extra long sheets, which can be quite a task. However, once you find the right retailer that understands your predicament, you can make your sheet selection at an affordable price.

Rose
