Three Quarter Sheet Set – Nonstandard Luxury in Bedding

Three Quarter Sheet Set – Nonstandard Luxury in Bedding
If you need more room than a twin bed but don’t have enough space for a full bed, you might look into three quarter beds.  They provide more space than a cramped twin bed for adults but don’t take up a ton of room.  These were more common sizes among antique beds or rice beds than now.  If you have a three quarter bed, you might have some trouble finding sheets that fit it.  A twin mattress usually measures 39 inches wide and 75 inches long.  A full sized bed has a width of 53 inches and a length of 75 inches.  The three quarter bed is 48 inches wide and 75 inches long.  This is too much difference to effectively use either twin or full sheets.
three quarter sheet set adjusts the size of both the fitted and flat sheets, as well as including a standard pillowcase.  You can still have luxurious feeling sheets on these nonstandard sized beds. The sumptuous feel of high quality bedding comes from the type of fabric used and the thread count.  Thread count measures the number of threads within one square inch of the fabric.  In general, the higher the thread count, the softer and silkier the sheets are.  However, with single ply, single pick construction, you get the absolute highest quality construction and ultimate luxury at a 400 thread count.  200 and 300 thread counts are also great.  Below 200, the feel of the sheets declines greatly.
Traditionally, a three quarter sheet set is made from cotton or cotton blends because they are cooler in the summer months.  The types and amounts of cotton used help to determine the quality of the fabric.  A 50% cotton, 50% polyester blend will provide sheets that stay cool and feel really nice.   100% Egyptian cotton is a step up in feel and quality.  Silk considered by some to be the height of luxury.  Satin is a more affordable choice with some of the same texture.  For the environmentally conscious or people with allergies, bamboo fibers are a good choice.  It is silky smooth but is also naturally hypoallergenic and antibacterial.
To enhance the feel even more, you can add a three quarter cotton mattress pad under your sheet set.  It is truly amazing how much more comfortable a bed is with a mattress pad than without one. For cooler areas or seasons, you might want to invest in some high quality flannel sheets, like double brushed Portuguese flannel.
